Impressed by this super down to earth dude who I had the chance to meet and to listen in the V&A museum in London recently I share his studio website and the interview which is about an hour long but deserves each minute. The most significant words I will never forget were ” When I see a falling star in the sky I do not wish anything for me but to have the opportunity to give something to somebody in a need, as I am fully aware of what extraordinary chance I’ve been given to become what I am at the moment and I need nothing else”

Do you know who is Corian. It sounds as an mythological character or an ancient god, isn’t it? But it is not actually a person but a material and it is not from the past but from the future… It was created in fact in the early 70′s by the chemical giant DuPont as a commercial bath product. Тhe market soon discovered new uses for this versatile material, particularly in kitchen countertops. By the 1990s, Corian® began to be specified for windowsills, indoor/outdoor furniture, even lighting.

Simnel cake is a light fruit cake, similar to a Christmas cake, covered in marzipan, and eaten at Easter in England and Ireland. A layer of marzipan or almond paste is also baked into the middle of the cake. On the top of the cake, around the edge, are eleven marzipan balls to represent the true apostles of Jesus; Judas is omitted.

Aki’s 30m2 flat in Tokyo is proof that a small space can have it all – room for eating, sleeping and living
“The reason I chose this flat was location. It is very quiet and convenient – with parks and shrines – even though it’s in central Tokyo. The area’s also great for interior shops and cafes, which I enjoy”

Ever since the first steps in Liberty you will understand that this place is not in vain selected as the best shop in London by on-line magazine Time Out London. Literally department store for everything related to modern lifestyle – cosmetics, clothes, accessories, jewelry, gifts, household goods – textiles, furniture, carpets, lighting, kitchen supplies, decorations and accessories, books, paintings. Nothing new under the sun, you will say! Yes, but actually here we are talking first for an exclusive selection of unique products from around the world, second – more and more emphasis on those that are handmade and a third - this store is only one in the world – one of a kind museum of the design. Here you can find both products of world famous designers in every field and those who see for first time but the thing that really links them is their uniqueness which combined with the charm of the interior of the store itself, just might make you contemplate its every corner for hours. Like, maybe you probably guess, this makes it an arena of constant events – book presentations (yesterday we wrote about presentation of Decorate by Holly Becker, Amy Butler today also presented his new book there), new collections, products, exhibitions. Liberty was one of the venues of London Fashion Week in February this year.

For those of you who are regularly monitoring blogs for decoration, the word decor8 certainly cause pleasant feelings – this is one of the oldest and best blogs on the entire network, a source of inspiration for about 35 000 people every day. The reason to write about them is not so much to introduce the blog itself, as to note one important for them and in particular for its creator, Holly Becker event – the premiere of her book Decorate. The date is 04/13/2011, and place one of the halls in the iconic store Liberty in the heart of London (which will tomorrow write in more detail). Event that we had the good fortune to attend, began with a meeting of the 35 priorly enrolled participants who were able to talk to her within 30 minutes. It was then a showcase of decorating a holiday table with DIY materials, you will be able to see detailed pictures on their blog in a few days. Finally started signing the books by the author.

This time I want to share with you a really weird place that I found quite by accident in London. It’s true that to some of you it can look sinister but ultimately it is an art and at a fairly high level yet. It’s all about the Hamlet Towers graveyard, which is no longer used as intended but is generously supported by a group of volunteers which makes it a great place for walks and relaxation and there is even a calendar with various celebrations to be held there. It is also a habitat of rare flowers and other living creatures.

Today we are going to represent you an amazing young lady who impressed us with her creativity, potential and the ambitious challenge she placed herself into and manages to keep on time so far .
“I am 26, and live in New York City with my dachshund puppy, Basel. This past May I graduated from architecture school with a Masters, and no job. While taking some time off, I put all of my energy into starting up my own little design firm, Zipper8Design. I sell my products on Etsy, and have been loving every minute of it.”

The name of William Morris could probably sounds unfamiliar to you but he in fact is one of the greatest designers of Great Britain for all times. Probably the word craftsman is more appropriate in the case if we consider the time he lived and worked – to be specific 1834 – 1896. The level of technology at that time and the fact that all the things were hand-made or made by hand-made devices and tools and besides he was as well a writer, political figure, created a factory, publishing house, book designs, his own typeface only can make us admire the talent, inspiration and energy of this man. The house he spent most of his childhood is today turned into a museum-gallery where everybody can meet and enjoy his artworks. On the two floors there are exhibited rugs, drapes, textiles, wallpapers, woodworks on furniture, painting on ceramic tiles, paintings, stained glass windows, books and publications.
